To most small business owners and startup founders, without doubt, marketing is a critical function to bring in more business. However, the reality is, for early stage or bootstrapped ventures, they may not be able to afford to engage an agency or to have an in-house marketer on a full time basis.

Deeds is energised by the way design and creative forms of communication can inspire change. Her practice resides in the intersection of marketing and communication design and social impact. She founded abcdeeds, a creative studio social enterprise which partners with ethical businesses, social enterprises, and not–for–profits in developing enlivening brand communication and campaign strategies. Her main role at the moment is managing the marketing and partnerships portfolio of Deakin University’s startup ecosystem body, SPARK Deakin. She also advises on communication design independently.

Chanie Hyde has been a Growth Marketer in the startup industry for more than 8 years, as well as being a freelance travel writer. As one of the first hires at BugHerd, Chanie was instrumental in the companies’ early success. Once the Head of Marketing for Australia’s largest startup accelerator (BlueChilli), Chanie mentors and guides many small businesses through growth marketing strategy
CEO, Legally Yours
Karen Finch is a non-practising lawyer, entrepreneur and legal tech founder. Karen qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2003. Since this time, Karen has gained experience within the legal industry across a plethora of different roles, including as a practicing solicitor in Melbourne and an in-house legal recruitment consultant for an international recruitment firm based in the UK. In 2015, Karen became a co-founder of Legally Yours and in 2017, Karen was appointed CEO. Since this time, Karen has scaled Legally Yours significantly, taking it from a bespoke matching service based primarily in Victoria, to a national, automated online service that connects community with fixed-fee and value based pricing lawyers Australia wide. Karen also sits on the Board of the Australian Legal Tech Association (ALTA) and is a passionate ambassador of the ’newlaw’ movement in Australia.
